2009 Xaverian Father Abbiati Giovanni, an Italian missioner who arrived in a newly independent but politically-troubled Bangladesh in 1975 and began working in southern Khulna diocese and is credited with enormous contributions in the field of structural development and women empowerment for over 34 years, died in a car accident in Dhaka.
